Reasonts to Quit Smoking

... By Karli Taylor

Seventy percent of smokers want to quit, but only about 5 to 10 percent actually do. If you were one of the thousands of people who resolved to quit smoking this New Year’s Day, here are a few reasons to stick to that resolution.

  • Within 20 Minutes of quitting, your heart rate and blood pressure will drop.
  • Within 12 Hours of quitting, the carbon monoxide level in your blood returns to normal.
  • Within 3 Months of quitting, your circulation will improve and your lung function will increase.
  • Within 1 Year of quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease will be half that of a smoker's.
  • Within 5 Years of quitting, your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker.
  • Within 10 Years of quitting, the chance of dying from lung cancer is half that of a smoker's.

Still not convinced? Let’s look at the financial side of things.

The average U.S. smoker spends more than $700 a year on tobacco products. Think of all of the things that you could buy with 700 extra dollars each year. Take that one step further and add the fact that smokers have an average life expectancy that is 15 years less than non-smokers. Let’s do the math- 15 years, $700.00 each year... By quitting smoking, you will profit $10,500.
