At Best Fitness, we are surrounded by individuals trying to lose weight or get in shape. In our experience, we are witness to a wide variety of commonly held myths that many believe are fact when it comes to losing weight. Misinformation can hamper your success. We would like to dispel some of those myths in an effort to help you reach your fitness goals.
Cardio is for weight loss
Cardio is a great way to get your heart and lungs in shape and of course you burn calories. But weight training is the best way to lose weight. Weight training causes deep tissue muscle fatigue. It's the repair of these deep tissue muscles that actually causes weight loss. At rest, it takes a lot of calories to fully repair these muscles. The combination of weight training, followed by cardio produces the best and healthiest results for weight loss.
Weight training creates bulk
Weight training makes you lean. Weight training causes lean muscle development. Hormone supplements are what make you bulky. Male hormones lead to large muscle growth. But, even in men, unless you train you're not going to get extraordinarily large muscles. Weight training causes women to become very lean. The more lean muscle mass you build, the smaller, more fit you will look.
Eating after 7pm leads to weight gain
Metabolic rate directly correlates to weight loss. Many believe that as it gets later your metabolism slows down. Incorrect. Your metabolism slows down once you go to bed. Eating late will not cause you to gain weight.
However, under eating or skipping meals during the day can make you gain weight. This practice makes you hungry and slows the metabolism. When you're hungry and tired, and your metabolism is running slowly, people tend to overeat. This is what leads to evening weight gain. Eating high protein foods, avoiding sugars and fats and drinking plenty of water can actually increase weight loss at night.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
Breakfast is A very important meal. Eating breakfast gives you nutrients and speeds up your metabolism, in fact it remains slow until you do eat breakfast. So getting is running faster sooner is best.
However, for weight loss, lunch is the most important meal of the day. Basically because it regulates how you will eat the rest of the day. Today, too many people either skip, skimp, or eat low calorie lunches. As a result, they become hungry later on. Often the mid afternoon snack is high carb or high calorie. Additionally, since it isn’t a meal, people often subconsciously don’t “count” it as eating. This results in weight gain. For weight loss, it is very important to make sure that you eat a well-rounded lunch.
